The letter says that some of the individuals interviewed in its review, Online Cigarettes Store USA who had worked with VanDyke in the past, raised the concern that he might not be fair to members of the LGBTQ community.

"Mr. VanDyke would not say affirmatively that he would be fair to any litigant before him, notably members of the LGBTQ community," the letter says of an interview conducted with VanDyke.

Lloyds confirmed on Thursday it set aside £1.8bn in the third quarter of the year to cover a surge in claims for payment protection insurance (PPI) mis-selling. That was at the top end of the £1.6bn and £1.8bn guidance the bank gave in September.
